Santuario Santa Fe

Santuario Santa Fe (SSF) is a 14 hectare sustainable farm and biodiversity sanctuary in the Colombian Coffee Region (an UNESCO world heritage site) where native wildlife, plants, and a wide variety of small-scale crops can co-exist. SSF is a destination where nature-minded tourists and birders can immerse themselves in a vast tropical habitat and cultural experience.

At SSF we offer day trip visits where guests can tour our gardens and extensive network of hiking trails. Day trips include transportation to and from the airport as well as breakfast, lunch, and other refreshments. We also lead guided birding trips up into the mountains, and we are happy to give guidance on general travel plans in Colombia.

Santuario Santa Fe is home to a wide variety of plants and animals, including orchids, heliconias, two species of monkeys, seven species of parrots, boa constrictors, jaguarundis, and many many more. Cataloging all of the life in the sanctuary is an ongoing process, new species are constantly being added to the list (189 bird species identified so far).

Waterfalls & Hiking Trails

In order to allow visitors to enjoy the beauty of SSF, we have added an ever increasing network of hiking trails (~3km so far) that range through the forests from the creek and waterfalls on the northern boundary to a lookout over the river valley and Andes mountains on the southern boundary.

Mountain Birding Tours

Santuario Santa Fe is located in the valley/foothills region below the central chain of the Andes Mountains. Our close proximity to the mountains and detailed knowledge of the region allow us to take small groups (2-3 people) up to various altitude ranges and highly diverse ecosystems. Day trips up into the mountains include all food, fuel, and entry fees for the day. Depending on the trip, we may eat at local restaurants serving traditional cuisine, or picnic along the trail in more remote areas.
